Finishing Stainless Steel and Aluminum Pipe

Linden fabricator completes number four finish on Stainless Steel Railing under budget and ahead of schedule.

A Linden New Jersey fabricator asked us to assist last month in a stainless steel handrail job which required over 400 feet of finishing
on 1-1/4" sch 40 stainless steel pipe.  In the past, the fabricator had used flap discs and flap wheels to finish the handrails, a time consuming process resulting in an uneven finish.

We visited the customer and demonstrated the Flex Boa Pipe Sander
which created a quick, uniformed finish in three easy steps.

1. Step 1 - 80 Grit Zirconia Belt
2. Step 2 - 120 Grit Zirconia Belt
3. Step 3 - Medium Scotch Brite Belt

Unitized Wheels - definition and application

As customers increasingly demand improved finishes, fabricators are turning to the use of unitized wheels.  Unitized wheels consist of multiple layer, strongly compressed non-woven material, bonded in a special grit resin system. This bonding system produces non-woven tools with excellent surface finishes, high stock removal and long tool life.  In addition, the composition of the wheel minimized scratches and marring of the surface finish, improving appearances and easing subsequent finishing operations.

Lehigh Valley unitized wheels have been designed for variable-speed angle grinders. They are especially suitable for working fillet welds and slots that are difficult to access or indentations in stainless steel (INOX) components.

New Ceramic Grain increases flap disc life by 30%

Our flap discs are now being manufactured with VSM's new Ceramic Grain seeded gel technology resulting in a 30% increase in disc life.  The price of the disc has not changed.

This grain technology is more homogenous in structure, allowing the product to last at least 30% longer than previous products, depending on the application. This added longevity in life saves customers time and money in their operations.  The discs in excel in both stainless steel and steel applications.
